If you don’t like something, change it

Updated: Oct 6, 2025

Beneath a heading of 'Want to start coaching at work?' is a stylised image of Maya Angelou 1928-2014 with a quote: 'If you don't like something, change it'. In the bottom left-hand corner is an advert for Tom Woodward Learning e-learning course 'I want to start coaching at work' and in the bottom right-hand corner is the Tom Woodward Learning logo.

Transitioning into a leadership role can be challenging, especially when you’re used to doing everything yourself.

But leadership isn’t about managing tasks or fixing every problem yourself — it’s about empowering others to do so. As a new manager, when you see something that isn’t working, remember Maya Angelou’s powerful advice. 💡 You have two choices: change what you can by coaching your team to find solutions and take ownership, or change your attitude by trusting your team and focusing on what you can influence and how you can support your team through challenges. 💪

Leadership is about empowering others to step up, solve problems, and grow. The more you coach and develop your team, the more you’ll see the power of leading through others. 🌱
